Cisco - Router - 2600 - Notes

Shopping list for router supporting analog modem dial-in (Configuration verified. See: Hardware - Dialup - Dialup at home):

  • Cisco 2600 Series Router
  • 1x NM-2V
  • 2x VIC-2FXS
  • 1x VWIC-1MFT-E1
  • 1x AIM-VOICE-30

Maximizing the FXS ports in a 2600 series router (FIXME Configuration to be verified. FIXME):

  • 2600XM series or 2691 router.
  • 1x NM-HD-2V
  • 2x VIC-4FXS

VWIC-1MFT-T1, VWIC-2MFT-T1, VWIC-2MFT-T1-DI and their E1 equivalents

T1/E1 Multi-Flex Trunk VWICs VWIC-1MFT-T1, VWIC-2MFT-T1, VWIC-2MFT-T1-DI can be used for either voice and data or both.
Use as a Voice Interface Card requires a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) to exist exist on the network module (NM) in which the VWIC is instaled.
Appropriate NMs such as an NM-HDV, NM-HDV2, an NM-HD-2VE, or an AIM-VOICE-30 and AIM-ATM-VOICE-30.
If installed in a standard WIC slot in a 2600 or 3600 router instead of the WIC slot in a network module (NM) it will function as a WIC wihtout the Voice support, unles an AIM-VOICE-30 or AIM-ATM-VOICE-30 module is also installed in the router.

AIM-ATM, AIM-VOICE-30, AIM-ATM-VOICE-30

  • Maximum number of AIM cards installable:
    • 2600: 1
    • 2691, 3660, and 3700 series: 2
  • ATM T1/E1s supported per AIM-ATM(-VOICE) card: 4
  • Requires IOS Plus feature set.

Key Note: Before the introduction of the AIM-VOICE-30, providing digital voice service required the
NM-HDV and analog voice services required the NM-1V/2V or NM-HDA. The AIM-VOICE-30, when used with a
Voice/WAN interface card (VWIC-MFT), can provide digital voice service without using teh NM-HDV.
This frees a valuable network module slot for other applications.
