HP - Servers - Lights-Out 100

Reset LO100 admin account/password

Tested on an HP ProLiant DL180 G6 with Lights-Out 100 firmware 4.22.

  1. Have a USB drive ready.
  2. Download UNetbootin. Tested with version 6.25.
  3. Insert the USB drive into your computer.
  4. Start UNetbootin.
  5. Select FreeDOS version 1.0 at Distribution.
  6. Check that the USB drive you have inserted is shown as the drive to be used.
  7. Click OK.
  8. When UNetbootin is finished you should have a USB drive with the following files on it:
    ubnkern
    ubninit
    syslinux.cfg
    menu.c32
  9. Download ipmitool.exe from Intel - IPMI Command Test Tool.
  10. Place ipmitool.exe from the zip file on the USB drive next to the other files.
  11. Add a text file named resetadm.bat next to ipmitool.exe on the USB drive with content:
    ipmitool.exe 20 18 47 03 02 61 64 6d 69 6e 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
  12. Insert the USB drive into the server with the HP Lights-Out 100 whose admin account needs to be reset.
  13. Boot the server from the USB drive.
  14. You should end up at the prompt:
    A:\>
  15. Enter the following command to switch to the B-drive:
    B:
  16. Now the prompt should read:
    B:\>
  17. Enter the following command to reset the admin account password:
    resetadm.bat
  18. Now you should be able to login to the Lights-Out 100 web interface with the default username admin and password admin, no reboot required.
