To get Excel 2003 files to open with Excel 2003 instead of 2007, do the following (note, you may need the Office 2003 CD)

Go to Start –> Run and type excel.exe /unregserver
Go to Run and type “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Excel.exe” /regserver

Microsoft Office Word To stop the useless Installation dialog boxes from coming up:

Go to Start –> Run and type Regedit and press Enter.
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Options
When you click the Options Folder, go to Edit –> New –> New DWORD Value.
Name it NoReReg and press Enter.
Right click the new Value and click Modify.
Type 1 and press Enter.
Now navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Options and do the same as above.
